The situation on the ground is developing positively for Ukraine, which is gradually recapturing small areas of territory.

This was stated by the Chair of NATO’s Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, at the Berlin Security Conference, Ukrinform reports «Ukrinform».

According to the admiral, the initiative is currently on the side of the Ukrainian forces rather than the Russian ones, although progress is slow.

At the same time, Dragone stressed the importance of ending the fighting and moving to negotiations. He noted that Ukraine is already ready to sit down at the negotiating table, while Russia still needs to be persuaded, and that this is the only next step.

Answering a question about the country’s most urgent military needs to change the situation, the Chair of NATO’s Military Committee named air defence systems and interceptor missiles.

Dragone also underlined that NATO, together with its partners, is making every effort to provide the Ukrainian side with the necessary air defence assets before winter sets in.
