Ukrainian president dismisses Mykolayiv regional governor

Vyacheslav Bonya will fill in as the region's head.

President Petro Poroshenko has dismissed the head of the Mykolayiv regional state administration, Vadym Merikov. Decree No 277 to this effect was published on the president's website on 29 June.

The same decree instructs Vyacheslav Bonya to fill in as the regional governor. Bonya was a deputy head of the regional administration in charge of finance.

Merikov tendered his resignation on 15 June after the corruption scandal involving his deputy Mykola Romanchuk broke out.

Romanchuk and three other officials were detained on 3 June while accepting a bribe of 90,000 dollars. A treasure tunnel was found underneath his house.
