Another major Ukrainian city renamed

The Verkhovna Rada has completed the de-communization.

The Verkhovna Rada voted on 14 July to rename the central city of Kirovohrad to Kropyvnytskyy.

Kirovohrad was the last city that has lost its Soviet name under Ukraine's decommunization law.

In total 230 lawmakers voted to support the bill.

Marko Kropyvnytskyy (1840-1910) was a Ukrainian writer, playwright and theatre actor. In the late 19th century, he organized a theatre company that included Maryia Zankovetska, Mykola Sadovskyy, Panas Saksahanskyy, Ivan Karpenko-Karyy and others.
