Over the past day, the Russia-backed militants made 54 attacks at the forces of the antiterrorist operation in Donbass, the ATO press center said on 20 July.
In the Mariupol sector, the militants used 122-mm artillery, banned under the Minsk agreements. The terrorists fired 12 shells at the strongholds of Ukrainian forces in Shyrokyno. They also used 82-mm mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and heavy machine guns. The enemy used 120 and 82-mm mortars to shell ATO positions in Talakivka.
Krasnohorivka, Hnutove and Vodyane were shelled by mortar fire. Small arms were used near Mariyinka, Slavne, Starohnativka and Novohryhorivka.
In the Donetsk direction, the Avdiyivka remained the hottest spot. The enemy shelled Ukrainian military from 120- and 82-mm mortars, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns and small arms. 120-mm mortar fired at the ATO positions In Mayorske, and 82 mm mortars shelled Butivka, Opytne and Zaitseve.
In the Luhansk sector, the enemy employed 82-mm mortars, grenade launchers of various systems and heavy machine guns to shell Stanytsya Luhanska. Anti-aircraft installations were used near Novozvanivka, and armoured personnel carrier weapons fired at Novoaleksandrivka.
In the previous day, seven Ukrainian soldiers were reported killed in the combat zone in Donbas, and another 14 were wounded. It was the largest number of casualties a day since May 23, when seven soldiers were killed.
