A shelling of Avdiyivka by pro-Russian militants killed two Ukrainian servicemen on the evening of 30 March, the antiterrorist operation (ATO) HQ has said.

"As a result of a shelling attack of the positions of a detached mechanized brigade whose personnel is carrying out combat tasks in the Donetsk sector near the population centre of Avdiyivka, two servicemen were killed," the statement reads.

The HQ said the militants used a tank, 120-mm and 82-mm mortars banned by the Minsk agreements.

"The situation in the ATO area remains difficult. The intensity of nighttime shooting picked up along the entire line of contact. As a result of fighting, nine servicemen were wounded, two more sustained combat injuries. Our defenders gave a decent answer to the enemy by returning fire," the ATO HQ said.

The ATO HQ said in its evening update that four servicemen were wounded and injured on 30 March.
