The Kyiv-run Ukrainian Orthodox Church is joining the mourning for Crimean Tatars deported by Joseph Stalin's regime on 18 May 1944. The church said on its website that its cathedrals would ring the bells in a five-minute tribute at noon on 17 May.
Kyiv's Independence Square will also host a rally in commemoration of the Crimean Tatar victims.
Thematic classes will be held in schools and universities all over Ukraine.
