Since the EU lifted visa requirements for short-term travel by Ukrainians on 11 June, 18,000 Ukrainians have leapt at the opportunity, the State Border Service has said on its website.
“Since the introduction of visa-free travel, 441,000 Ukrainians have crossed the border into the EU by 18 June. Of them, 90,000 our compatriots traveled on biometric passports, 18,000 Ukrainians enjoyed the benefits of visa-free regulations and crossed the border having only biometric passports,” it said.
Of all visa-free travelers, 32 per cent took planes, while others traveled by the railway and cars.
The State Border Service said that 22 Ukrainians had been denied entry to the EU.
According to a survey, around 70 per cent of Ukrainians did not expect to travel to Europe visa free this year.
