The US Embassy in Ukraine noted the importance of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on prevention and combating corruption. "The Verkhovna Rada committee critical for reforms needed to meet expectations of the Maidan 4 years on. Ahead of International Anti-Corruption Day, Ukrainians and friends expect a chair and committee which will work against corruption to build the new Ukraine," the embassy said on Twitter on Friday, 8 December.
On Thursday, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed the deputy Yegor Sobolev from the post of chairman of the anti-corruption committee, despite the call of the EU ambassador in Ukraine not to do so.
The anticorruption committee is one of the main parliamentary committees. It is engaged in checking bills for corruption component.
