Kharkiv resident Oleksandr Steshenko, who was detained by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) when he was crossing the administrative border with Crimea, has been missing since he was taken away by force in an unknown direction from the Simferopol special remand centre for persons charged with administrative offences, according to an LB.ua correspondent.

At around 10 p.m. on 24 April, Steshenko was to leave the remand centre. The lawyers who came to meet him saw several men push Steshenko into a white minivan without a number plate and leave.

Lawyer Ayder Azamatov said that he visited several courts in Simferopol, the main directorate of the FSB in Crimea and the border service department to check Steshenko's files, if any. Azamatov was told there that they did not know anything about this person, neither had they detained or arrested him.

He is not in the special remand centre either.

"I do not know where to ask for the loose ends on the case. It is unknown where Oleksandr Steshenko is, who abducted him, where and why he was taken," Azamatov said.
