Streets flooded as extreme rain hits Lviv

Rescuers had to carry passengers out of flooded transport.

Dozens of streets in Lviv were flooded today after 28% of the monthly precipitation volume poured onto the city within one hour, ZAXID.net has reported.

All emergency services have been involved in rescue efforts. In some cases, rescuers had to carry passengers out of flooded buses to safer places.

The Lviv regional hydrometeorological centre said that 21.3 mm of rain fell in Lviv on 17 August, which is 28% of the monthly rate of 76 mm. The town of Drohobych in Lviv Region was hit even harder, with 36 mm of water falling from the sky.

Public electric transport had to stop after the showers. Trams and trolley buses were back in service at 9.30 p.m.

A similar torrential rain hit Kyiv in the early hours of 16 August.
