Servicemen of the military intelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has prevented the theft of two aviation engines from a military unit in Kyiv Region.
The SBU said on its website that its operatives learnt about a guard company commander looking for "clients" to sell two Mi-8 helicopter engines to. Acting through intermediaries, he offered them for 400,000 hryvnyas (14,270 dollars). Their market price is a dozen times higher.
The SBU said there were Russians among potential buyers.
The officer was caught when a lorry he ordered for the engines was leaving his military unit.
