Scoop of the weekend: Trump asks Zelenskyy to probe Biden

Trump-Zelenskyy

US President Donald Trump in a July phone call repeatedly pressured the president of Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden’s son, according to people familiar with the matter, urging Volodymyr Zelenskyy about eight times to work with Rudy Giuliani on a probe that could hamper Mr. Trump’s potential 2020 opponent, The Wall Street Journal has said.

Former Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has said that Ukraine has become a factor in the US presidential campaign and will remain on the agenda there until the election. "It is important that Ukraine will be perceived as a source of problems not of something positive. And it may cost us dearly," he said, adding that the Kremlin "would be especially happy, of course".

Russian coal

Police have detained 28 people at the Sosnivka railway station in Lviv Region where activists have been blocking train cars with Russian coal for over two weeks. Police asked the local authorities and the coal company's management to intervene "given that the problem has escalated to political domain".

Crime

Wiretapping devices have been found in the ventilation system in the office of State Bureau of Investigation director Roman Truba, he has said on Telegram.

Army

Ukraine does not plan to cut the number of its troops, currently standing at around 250,000, Defence Minister Andriy Zahorodnyuk has told Radio Liberty.

Sentsov

At the Publishers Forum in Lviv, film director Oleg Sentsov has presented his new book, The Marketer, which he wrote in Russian detention. The book is based on real events and describes his student years.

Ex-President Petro Poroshenko has said that Sentsov had to be swapped for two Russian journalists detained in Ukraine back in 2014, but Russia's Vladimir Putin did not honour the deal.

Culture

Ukrainian rap singer Alyona Alyona (Alyona Savranenko) has received Anchor Award in Germany as the most promising new artist.
