Scoop of the day: Yermak says prisoner exchange to be held soon

Another exchange of prisoners with pro-Russian separatists is expected to take place in the near time, according to Ukrainian presidential chief of staff Andriy Yermak. He also expects a Normandy Four summit to be held in the coming months.

Three Ukrainian servicemen have been wounded as a result of nine attacks by pro-Russian militants since midnight, the Joint Forces Operation HQ has reported.

Coronavirus

Ukraine has registered 819 new cases of the coronavirus and 1,016 recoveries by the morning of 10 July. The total number of cases has reached 52,043, including 24,800 recoveries and 1,345 deaths, the Health Ministry added.

Local elections

Parliament will hold an extraordinary session on 13 July to consider a resolution on regular local elections scheduled for this autumn.

Georgia

Ukraine highly appreciates its strategic partnership with Georgia and confirms its readiness to develop bilateral relations in the spirit of friendship and good neighbourhood, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said after Georgia summoned the Ukrainian ambassador over remarks made by Georgian ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili, who currently heads the executive committee of the Ukrainian reform council. Kyiv said that public statements by unauthorized individuals do not reflect the position of the state.

Turkey

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has met Turkish Defence Minister Hulusi Akar, who is in Ukraine on a working visit. Akar confirmed that Turkey was prepared to build 500 homes for Crimean Tatars who were forced out of Crimea by Russian occupation.

Serpent Island

Ukrainian border guards have visited the Serpent Island in the Black Sea for the first time in 12 years. A Mi-8 helicopter of the detached aviation escadrille of the State Border Service of Ukraine made a monitoring flight Odesa-Ukraine's territorial sea-Serpent Island-Vylkove-Odesa. Two Mi-8 crews are now permitted to fly above the sea and may deliver staff or cargo to the island.

Deputy premier for defence industry

The Cabinet of Ministers has nominated a former head of the State Space Agency, Oleh Uruskyy, for deputy prime minister for defence industry. He is yet to be endorsed by parliament.

Crime

Police have detained three individuals suspected of blowing up and robbing a cash-in-transit van of the Ukrainian postal company Ukrposhta in Poltava Region, Deputy Interior Minister Anton Herashchenko has said on Facebook.
