Scoop of the day: Russia cuts gas transport via Ukraine

Gas

Russia transported 29.45bn cu.m. of gas to Europe using the Ukrainian gas transport system, wich is 15.2% less than during the same period last year, the Ukrainian Gas Transport System Operator has said.

It recalled that Gazprom had only booked 4% (0.65m cu.m. per day) of the proposed additional guaranteed transport capacity of 15m cu.m. per day in Ukraine.

Poland is interested in developing gas deposits in western Ukraine to lower both countries' energy dependence on Russia, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said.

Donbas

Russia-backed militants shelled civilian towns along the line of contact, the Joint Forces Operation HQ said. They targeted Verkhnyotoretske with banned 122-mm artillery and 120-mm mortars.

A group of Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) investigators collecting the evidence of yesterday's shelling of residential districts in Tryokhizbenka, Luhansk Region came under enemy fire. They were targeted with heavy mortars.

The SBU has found out that Russian passports have been issued to residents of separatist-controlled areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions on a large scale ahead of the Russian Duma elections. These documents do not make their holders entitled to any social benefits, the SBU warns.

Economy

The World Bank is prepared to allocate 230m dollars to Ukraine under the COVAX global facility seeking to ensure equal access to Covid-19 vaccines, the Finance Ministry has said.

Afghanistan

Another 159 Ukrainians want to be evacuated from Afghanistan, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has said. "We are working through the embassies in Tajikistan, Pakistan and Iran, and the embassies of our friendly countries to organize regular evacuation flights," he said.
