A meeting between US President Joe Biden and Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been postponed again, from 31 August until 1 September. Zelenskyy's official visit to the USA was to begin on 30 August.
Two Ukrainian servicemen were wounded on 29 August amid at least four ceasefire violations by Russia-backed militants, the Joint Forces Operation HQ said. Militants fired 120-mm mortars near Shyrokyne, handheld grenade launchers and small arms near Zolote-4, underbarrel grenade launchers near Prychepylivka. An Orlan-10-type drone crossed the line of contact in Luhansk Region.
Eighteen ceasefire violations were registered in Donbas on 28 August. Six Ukrainian servicemen sustained fragmentation wounds and four combat injuries. The Joint Forces returned fire to suppress the enemy attacks.
A tribute to fallen soldiers and law enforcers was held outside the Defence Ministry in Kyiv. The names of 228 soldiers killed on 28 August 2014-2020 were read out.
The Interior Ministry has said that border guards registered around 400 passengers of three evacuation flights from Afghanistan on 28 August. There were Ukrainians as well as foreigners among them.
Ukraine registered 1,906 new Covid-19 cases on 28 August, the Health Ministry said. There were 34 fatalities.
