According to his Facebook page, speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk has asked his counterparts in European parliaments to declare Ukrainian airspace a no-fly zone. He also urged the EU to pass the decisions necessary to make Ukraine a member of the EU under a special procedure.
“Today I am constantly in touch with the speakers of all the parliaments of EU member states. I have already discussed the issue online with the representatives of the parliaments of Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Croatia, the Netherlands and Slovakia. The highest on the agenda is the issue of making Ukraine an EU member under a special procedure, since the European Parliament accepted the application of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy yesterday,” wrote the speaker.
Stefanchuk also asked his EU counterparts to facilitate the decision to declare Ukrainian airspace a no-fly zone and solve other defence and humanitarian aid-related issues.
“Today, I will be talking to the MPs of about 10 more countries. The Ukrainian parliament is doing everything in its power to make Ukraine a member of the EU immediately, since it is the civilizational choice and age-long dream of the Ukrainian people, for which Ukrainians are paying a terribly high price. They are paying with human lives,” stressed Stefanchuk.
Earlier, the European Parliament recommended granting Ukraine the status of an EU candidate.
