The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, wrote this on Twitter.
Then the cooling system of the spent nuclear fuel storage will be shut down, threatening radiation leakage.
"The entire power supply line of the Chernobyl NPP and all its nuclear facilities controlled by the Russian army has been damaged. Chernobyl is de-energized. I call on the whole international community to immediately demand that Russia ceasefire and allow repair crews to resume electricity as soon as possible," Kuleba said.
"Russia's barbaric war threatens the whole of Europe. Putin must stop it immediately!" he added.
As was reported earlier, the Chernobyl NPP was completely de-energized due to hostilities by the Russian occupiers. The warfare has continued, making it impossible to repair and restore power.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has unexpectedly lost touch with safeguards monitoring systems at the Russian-occupied Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
Operations with nuclear materials at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, for now, have been suspended. Decommissioned nuclear reactors and radioactive waste facilities are located on the site. The regulator says it can only communicate with NPP by e-mail.
An IAEA statement said that the Director of the Agency, Grossi, is personally ready to go to the Chernobyl NPP to obtain security guarantees for all nuclear facilities in Ukraine.
The 210 people of technical staff of the Chernobyl NPP have been working since the capture. Russia does not allow them to be replaced. The staff has limited access to water, food, and medicine.
