The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has called Volodymyr Putin's demands to end the war in Ukraine unacceptable.

This was reported by "Evropeiska pravda".

"I have to be a realist. We are constantly involved in negotiations with President Putin. Until the last minutes before the beginning of the war, and after the declaration to start it, we are trying to negotiate and achieve a ceasefire. But I have to admit that the conditions expressed by Putin are unacceptable to everyone, "Macron said.

He said that today the question is whether Putin is ready to negotiate at all.

"Today, I look at the facts, and the facts are as follows: Russia has decided to start a war, Russia is bombing Ukraine, Russia is bombing civilians and is negotiating at the same time. But these negotiations do not lead to anything. Therefore I do not see the possibility of a ceasefire in the coming hours, "the French leader added.

At the same time, the President of France stated that it is unrealistic to negotiate EU accession with a country at war.

"Can we open the process of joining a country at war?" I don't think so, "he said.

At the summit in Versailles, EU leaders will offer Ukraine a closer partnership but probably not an accelerated membership in the EU.

On 1 March 2022, the European Parliament recommended that Ukraine be granted EU candidate status.

Meanwhile, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that Ukraine is waiting for a clear signal from EU leaders.
