The Mayor of the now-occupied Genichesk Olexandr Tulupov has resigned.

This is stated in Tulupov's address on the official website of the Genichesk City Council.

"Today is a difficult day in my life and in the life of my team. We have to state that we have been brought to the point when we cannot work and exercise our powers as representatives of the Ukrainian local government," Tulupov wrote.

He said that the Deputies, the Secretary of the Council, the Manager of the Executive Committee and many other members of the staff of the City Council had resigned along with him.

"All of us have done everything possible and impossible during this difficult wartime to ensure the living conditions of our people. Thank you all for your cooperation, understanding, mutual commitment and help. I am proud of you!" Tulupov added.

Russia occupied Genichesk on February 24. On February 25, a separate battalion engineer, sailor Vitaliy Skakun, blew up the Genichesk Automobile Bridge to stop the advance of an enemy tank column.

On 6 March, a rally of Genichesk residents against Russian invaders took place in the occupied city.
