Russian troops haven't surrounded Kyiv as the occupiers do not have the strength for such an operation. The chairman of the capital's military administration, Mykola Zhyrnov, declared it in an interview to NV, reported "Liga".
"As the head of Kyiv's military administration and as a military man, I can assure you: Kyiv is not under siege. There is no encirclement of the city," Zhyrnov said, commenting on the words of an adviser to the Head of the OPU Mykhailo Podolyak, who said, "Kyiv is under siege and ready to fight" and the adviser to the Interior Minister Vadym Denysenko, who noted that "Kyiv is not surrounded."
Zhyrnov stressed that "the enemy has no advantages" on the eastern and southern sides of Kyiv. According to the capital's military leader, the occupiers made the most progress in the Zhytomyr direction - to Yasnohorodka west of Kyiv.
"But then we stopped the enemy. Despite the advantage in human resources and weapons, the enemy could not get out and take control of the Odessa highway. The situation is similar in Obukhiv and Boryspil's directions. We noticed the advance of the enemy's convoys, and the Armed Forces struck," Zhyrnov said.
He clarified that now the enemy has started defending due to losses and is regrouping.
"We control the eastern and southern parts of the region. Every city in the Kyiv region, our neighbours, are strongholds where our military and all residents defend their homes, streets and neighbourhoods," the major general said.
He said that we did not have enough troops in the Vyshhorod and Zhytomyr directions to stop the enemy at the country's border at the beginning of the full-scale war.
"Therefore, the enemy was able to reach the frontiers of the river Irpin. Nevertheless, the Ukrainian Armed Forces stopped the enemy; the occupier suffered significant losses. Every day for the enemy is like hell. We destroy their rear, communications, equipment. At present, the occupiers do not have enough resources. They do not have enough forces to continue the offensive," Zhyrnov concluded.
