Russian troops fired on Mykolayiv from close range, from the Kherson region. That is why we did not have time to warn the city residents about the morning bombing.
The City Mayor, Oleksandr Senkevych, reported it during the TRK MART broadcast.
"The situation in the city is fine. There was silence after the morning bombing. Today, Russian troops continue to regroup. They have taken over some villages and small towns and continue to hold residents as hostages," he said.
Senkevich also noted that the Head of the Regional State Administration, Vitaliy Kim, did not get in touch because there is much work in the region at the moment.
The City Mayor explained that when the danger comes from the occupied Crimea, they have time to turn the warning system on and warn the citizens, but there is not enough time for the system to start when the attack is at close range.
"There was no air alert because the attack was from the Kherson region, and we didn't have time to start the alert system. Unfortunately, the bombing comes faster than we identify the direction and launch the system ... It's a reminder that you have to be ready for everything," said Senkevych.
As for reports of the bombing of the 79th Air Assault Brigade, the City Mayor noted that the occupiers attacked the unit's quarters.
"Fortunately, some places were empty, and some people were injured... I will not give you more information because this is military data, and I cannot share it with you," Senkevych explained.
At the same time, Western journalists report at least 40 casualties among the military. In particular, German investigative journalist Julian Röpcke informed about it and published the relevant photos.
