The German government believes that Ukraine needs additional weapons, so they will facilitate its immediate purchase from German manufacturers. The EU is discussing an increase in funds for weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated that before the meeting of the EU Council in Brussels on Monday, 21 March, according to DW.
She confirmed that the meeting would make a political decision to double the EU's funding for arms and supplies to Ukraine to 1bn euros.
"Ukraine needs additional weapons, and we, the German side, support this," Baerbock said.
According to her, the German government "will work actively, and we are already taking care of this so that if it is necessary to buy (weapons, - ed.) from German manufacturers, it could happen as soon as possible".
At the same time, the Minister refused to talk about any details of arms supplies to Ukraine to ensure the security of these supplies.
Asked whether Germany supports the embargo on Russian energy supplies to the EU, Baerbock said it was trying to find alternative oil and gas suppliers.
"We will gradually but very actively get rid of dependence on Russian fossil fuels. We emphasize that we will cut all the paths with Russia to isolate the Russian government and the Russian president on all channels," she added.
Earlier today, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on Germany to sever all business ties with Russia.
