Verkhovna Rada passed bill № 5583, which provides for a comprehensive review and update of the social protection system for the war veterans, their families, and the families of the fallen soldiers, the Ministry for Veterans Affairs said.
Amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On the Status of War Veterans, Guarantees of Their Social Protection" proposed by the Ministry were supported by 354 MPs.
As the Ministry for Veterans Affairs explained, they added “new clauses on determining the state policy for social protection of the war veterans, its development and realization, and also on determining the social protection system for the war veterans.”
A comprehensive review of the social protection system for war veterans and their families will be conducted every three years. The same review will stay after the combat is over.
"In addition, the adopted bill brings the current legislation in line with the new statuses introduced by the Law of Ukraine №2121 of March 15, 2022, namely - family members of deceased (dead) war veterans, family members of deceased (dead) Defenders of Ukraine,” - the Ministry added.
On March 15, the Verkhovna Rada, at a special session, adopted the law №7151 "On Ensuring the Rights and Freedoms of Citizens and the Legal Regime in the Temporarily Occupied Territory of Ukraine." Now the Territorial Defense Forces volunteers will be recognized as war veterans.
