Sanctions against Russia in response to the mass murders of civilians must be robust, although they are belated, said President Zelenskyy in his evening address.
"Did they have to wait until this (mass murder of civilians) to put aside their hesitation and doubts? Did hundreds of our people have to die in horrible suffering so that some European leaders finally realize that the russian state deserves to face the toughest sanctions," he said. "This breaks the heart of every Ukrainian. This breaks my heart. Only now do we hear the statements of all world leaders that we should have heard long ago when everything was already clear."
Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine must receive all necessary arms to chase the occupiers from our land and liberate our cities.
"If we'd already received everything we needed, all those aircraft, tanks, artillery, air defense and naval defense weapons, we could have saved thousands of people. I am not blaming you; I am only blaming russian military. But you could have helped. I will keep saying this to the face of every person who has a say about supplying weapons to Ukraine," he said.
US President Joe Biden called for a war crimes trial for the atrocities committed by russians in Bucha and said he would impose additional sanctions on Russia.
