Ukraine's proposal to discuss the status of Crimea for 10-15 years is one of the formats of a diplomatic solution to the issue, but russia is unlikely to agree to such a proposal. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with Ukrainian media.
"10-15 years is some form of an offer from Ukraine and the same percentage that the russia would agree to it. 10-15 is not about not raising this topic. This is an agreement between the parties, which within 10 years the parties must resolve the issue of Crimea through diplomacy, " Mr Zelenskyy said.
According to Mr Zelenskyy, such a solution to the Crimea issue is not bad, emphasizing that his decision may change tomorrow.
"I do not think this is a bad decision, but I do think this today. It is also important that what I think now and what I will think tomorrow and what we did yesterday are completely different things. This does not mean that we are not fulfilling our obligations, right today, if there were such agreements, it would be a victory for Ukraine, " Mr Zelenskyy added.
Mr Zelensky added that the proposal to resolve the Crimea issue is a strong position.
"Because it is difficult to resolve all disputes in batches or end the war, and I think it is unlikely. Some things with tanks or missiles are impossible even for society. No one will hear you, and rightly so. Therefore, I believe that this is a strong position if it can be resolved through diplomatic means in 10-15 years. This is not a compromise, it is almost non-existent, it is a questionable position, but the main proposal is "leave our territory," Mr Zelenskyy said.
Earlier, in talks with Russia, Ukraine proposed that the status of Crimea be resolved through bilateral talks for no longer than 15 years. At the same time, Ukraine excluded the possibility of a military solution.
According to the member of the Ukrainian delegation, Deputy Rustam Umerov, Ukraine is already starting to discuss Crimea in the negotiations, it is not about 15 years.
