From 24 February to 31 March, the russians were absorbing the energy of the Ukrainian land in the occupied Chornobyl. The soldiers - knowing no fear - were digging trenches in the radioactive soil. The dosimeter beeps non-stop near their abandoned positions warning of danger.
For one month, the servicemen were inhaling the contaminated dust of the Red Forest. They were preparing for the occupation of the Red Forest in advance and brought bags for barricades. Evidently, the bags were filled with the soil in the exclusion zone. The russians vacated their positions in a hurry having left their boots, food leftovers, heaps of garbage, and burned wood of the Red Forest. The dogs contaminated with radiation were running around these positions of the enemy. These details are shown in the video project Ukrainian Witness.
“Lots of garbage. Lots of food leftovers. And they lived in this forest. They burned lots of wood,” said the witnesses.
Chornobyl’s hospitality and landscapes of the exclusion zone will be remembered by the occupants for the rest of their lives.
