Ukraine can count on Lithuania to remain a strong voice in its international support, both in military assistance and on the path to full EU membership.

"Ukrinform" reports this was stated by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, Ingrida Shimonite, during a briefing on the results of her visit to Ukraine.

"My current visit to Ukraine began with Borodianka. I can't find the words to describe what we saw and heard there fully. Ruined Ukrainian cities and towns are the face of 21st-century russia. And although Putin started this war, it is being waged by russian commanding officers. Tens of thousands of Russian servicemen who commit crimes that cannot be described fulfill these orders. Unfortunately, they received the "green light" from millions of russian citizens who once voted for Putin and expressed their support for him, "she said.

According to Ingrida Shimonite, Lithuania will help document these crimes in every possible way.

"Of course, this will require unprecedented financial resources, support from international donors," she said. - It is necessary to allow Ukraine to use for reconstruction the frozen assets of russia, which are under sanctions. To do this, we should develop an appropriate legislative mechanism as soon as possible. "

The Prime Minister also assured that Lithuania will continue to provide support and asylum for Ukrainians who were forced to leave their country due to the war. In addition, convoys of trucks will continue to transport military and humanitarian aid provided by the state, businesses, and ordinary people from Lithuania to Ukraine.

"Ukraine can count on Lithuania to remain a strong voice in its support in terms of military assistance and the strengthening of sanctions and on Ukraine's path to full EU membership. Because today Ukraine is fighting not only for itself but also for the whole free world," - Ingrida Shimonite summed up.

On Monday, 11 April 2022, Ukraine and Lithuania signed an agreement on cooperation in protecting Ukrainian children affected by the war.
