Recognition by Verkhovna Rada of the genocide of Ukraine should become a legal component of the conviction of the International Criminal Court against Russia. The Resolution "On the Statement of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine On the Commitment of Genocide in Ukraine by the Russian Federation" is not a political document but primarily a legal one.

This is what Ruslan Stefanchuk, the Chairman of Verkhovna Rada, announced during the national telemarathon UA together broadcast.

"We considered that we didn't just need a political statement on genocide. We formed it so that, as a legal component, it would be a part of the conviction verdict, specifically for the International Criminal Court. So I immediately passed this ruling in English to Prosecutor Karim Khan (Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court - Ed.), who is conducting this case in the IСС, " the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada said.

The Chairman explained the importance of the legal component of this document.

“The whole world considers genocide the queen of crimes. There is no higher crime than genocide. Therefore, it must be proved very meticulously, verifying all legal details. We are working very fruitfully within the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine; we are working with the International Criminal Court, providing them with all the necessary evidence. And what is important is that we cooperate with the chairmen of other parliaments who come to Ukraine to make sure that this is genocide of the Ukrainian people," Stefanchuk stressed.

On April 14, during the session, Verkhovna Rada recognized the russian war as genocide against Ukraine. According to the First Deputy Chairman, this resolution was developed together with all Ukrainian agencies.
