The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine does not currently predict the use of nuclear weapons by russia.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Oleksandr Motuzyanyk announced it at a briefing at the Media Center "Ukraine".

"We need to understand that nuclear weapons are the last trump card of russian federation. At the moment we do not see any signs that russia can use these weapons. Our intelligence has no such information, also our foreign partners and foreign intelligence, with whom we cooperate and exchange information, do not confirm this so far," Motuzyanyk said.

However, he stressed that "in any case, we must be ready for any development of the situation".

"Including perhaps such a very negative precedent," the Defense Ministry spokesman added.

Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he considered it unlikely that russia would use nuclear weapons because russia's leadership "loves life". Also in an interview with the American television company PBS, Dmitriy Peskov, the press secretary of the russian president, said that any outcome of the events in Ukraine is not a reason to use nuclear weapons.

Although, in late March, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said the prospect of the use of nuclear weapons by the russian federation was "becoming more realistic". And CIA Director William Burns said that because of "potential despair" russian president Vladimir Putin may order to use nuclear weapons trying to create the appearance of victory in Ukraine.
