The Pentagon said what will be included in a new aid package to Ukraine. Especially adapted drones make a part of this package.
The BBC reports that "Politico" correspondent Lara Seligman has released information on the components of the new military aid package to Ukraine, which President Biden has just announced.
Yes, the assistance package will include:
72 howitzers with caliber 155 mm (last week we received only 18 such machines) and 144 thousand shells for them;
72 artillery tractors;
"over 121" drones Phoenix Ghost (the White House named the same number);
field gear and spare parts.
Pentagon official representative John Kirby told more about Phoenix Ghost drones. They were especially refined by the US Air Forces for the needs of Kyiv and are in many ways similar to the Switchblade drones provided to Ukraine earlier. These are the so-called "loitering munition," or, as they are called in the popular press, kamikaze drones. They can fly a distance of dozens of kilometers, then go to the target and blow it up during self-destruction.
The sources at the Pentagon that remain unnamed told reporters that the first planes with equipment from the new package would fly to Ukraine's neighboring countries "within 24-48 hours" and "by the end of the weekend," the cargo should be in the hands of Ukrainians.
Earlier on 21 April 2022, Biden announced another batch of military assistance to Ukraine worth $ 800m, saying it was "a direct message to Putin: he will never be able to dominate and occupy the whole Ukraine."
