The IAEA Head Rafael Grossi is to visit Chornobyl next week. He will lead the mission of accelerating efforts to prevent nuclear accidents during the war, The Guardian writes referring to the statement.
From 26 April, the nuclear security expert group will be staying in Chornobyl to deliver "vital equipment and conduct radiological and other assessments at the plant".
"The IAEA presence in Chornobyl will be of high-priority significance in our support activity for Ukraine as it aims to regain regulatory control over the nuclear power plant and provide security and its safe operation", - Grossi said.
The experts will be sent to the other Ukrainian nuclear power plants in further weeks. Grossi visited the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant last month.
Russians were keeping control over the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant for 5 weeks. During that time, they cut off electricity several times, plundered some equipment, settled in the extremely dangerous Red Forest, and stole the radiation source and fuel containers staying near which guarantees the development of radiation sickness and the beginning of the irreversible processes in the organism.
The Belarus radiological center was filled with the occupants of Chornobyl after their withdrawal.
