The veteran status and social protection that the state provides for them will be granted to the volunteers that participated in hostilities (in the ranks of the local defense brigades and volunteer units of the local communities).
Laputina mentioned that the Veterans' Ministry kept working on updating the system of social security for service people and their families. She recalled that under the updated legislation every [Ukrainian – tr.] defender that directly participated in hostilities has the right to receive a veteran status and the relevant social protection from the state.
Laputina explained that when the law that provides the volunteer forces with the right to veteran status had been adopted no one knew where the battleground would take place. So, now this right was guaranteed all over Ukraine.
"However, under the Procedure of status granting only those who directly participated in hostilities will receive it. There will be a commission acting at the Ministry involving the security and defense fields' representatives that will address these issues," – the Minister added.
In his turn, the head of the [Poltava – tr.] Regional Military Administration Dmytro Lunin informed her of the specific details of staffing of the local defense units in the region as well as of the volunteer formations of the local communities. He emphasized that the Poltava region authorities kept a relevant register of volunteers for whom it is mandatory to take an oath, sign a contract and undergo the necessary training.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Ukrainian troops would be paid 100 thousand hryvnias in salary until the war ended.
