Today, 26 April, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe elected Mykola Hnatovskyy as a Judge of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) from Ukraine by 167 votes.

This was announced by the head of the Ukrainian delegation to the PACE, member of parliament from the "Servant of the People" party Maria Mezentseva.

"He will become a judge of the ECHR for 9 years after taking the oath. The standing delegation thanks all members of the Commission for the Selection of Candidates for the European Court of Human Rights and its chairwoman Olga Shpakovych for impartial and professional work, and for two other candidates - Tetiana Antsupova, Judge of the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court, and Oleksandr Vodyannikov, National Legal Adviser to the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine," Mezentseva was quoted by the press service of "Servant of the People" party.

According to MP, Ukraine has proved that it can be represented by professional international lawyers with high authority.

"Our state has done everything to select a judge from Ukraine, because it is important in the context of the legal fight against russia and the strengthening of human rights," the statement says.

Mykola Hnatovskyy became the third judge of the European Court of Human Rights from Ukraine after Volodymyr Butkevych and Hanna Yudkivska. He is an international lawyer, scientist, President of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture or Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment in 2015-2020, Associate Professor of International Law in the Institute of International Relations of the Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University.
