Today, on May 5, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and his colleagues visited settlements in Kyiv region that suffered massive shelling and military terror by russian invaders – the city of Irpin, village Dmytrivka and Hostomel township, reports the press center of Ministry of Internal Affairs.

As a result of working session, the Ministers of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland jointly declared their desire to intensify and develop cooperation, in particular, by:

  • strengthening efforts in the fight against cross-border crime, in particular, the organization of illegal smuggling of people across the state border, the fight against human trafficking;

  • strengthening protection against criminal encroachments of Ukrainian citizens who have been forced to leave the territory of Ukraine and are temporarily on the territory of the European Union member states;

  • assistance in rebuilding the infrastructure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine damaged during war;

  • providing assistance to address the priority needs of the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in repelling the armed aggression of the russian federation and the exchange of experience in the areas of competence of the relevant ministries.

Monastyrskyi expressed gratitude to his colleagues who were the first to come and support Ukraine.

The joint declaration provides for cooperation to speed up the investigation of war crimes committed by russian servicemen in Ukraine. It also provides for the possibility to help services and bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, that cooperate directly with the services and bodies of the above countries, and other countries of the European Union. Furthermore, assistance with humanitarian demining is important.

"We understand that it will take years to demine Ukraine. Speed is the key here. Because both the weather and the time of year, unfortunately, complicate this process. And if we lose this time, we will lose the opportunity to find explosive devices that, unfortunately, will be bringing grief to Ukrainian homes for a very long time," said Monastyrskyi.

On the first day of the full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repulsed the positions of the russian invaders at the Antonov International Airport in Hostomel, less than 10 km from Kyiv.
