The State Service for Emergency Situations withdraws an average of 2 to 5 thousand explosive ordnance items daily. The extent of demining our territories has increased tenfold. Nearly 20 thousand hectares of territory were inspected since the beginning of the war. Over 103 thousand mines and ammunition were recovered. More than 2,000 of which were aircraft bombs of various calibres.

The head of the department for organization of pyrotechnic works and humanitarian demining of the SSES Oleh Bondar said during a briefing, the news agency LB.ua reported.

"One of the negative consequences of the invasion of our territory by the occupying Russian military forces was the large-scale contamination of territories and settlements with explosive objects. Including those prohibited by international conventions. The enemy uses remote targeting systems. They place mines and wire traps in populated areas and leavs behind a large number of explosive devices that pose a lethal threat to civilians. These munitions and ammunition were found in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Mykolayiv, Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Luhansk regions," he said.

SSES has received over 10,000 applications for explosive ordnance disposal through an interactive website

According to Oleg Bondar, the total number of detected and defused miscellaneous mines, cluster components and specially installed explosive devices is only 10%. Therefore, for the safety of the civilian population, the SSES speeded up the work and training of the population in case of detection of such dangerous objects.

Based on international experience, demining can last from 5 to 10 years. After the liberation of Ukrainian towns and villages from occupation, they take a number of measures. First and foremost, they inspect the roads and transport connections. Secondly, it is about ensuring the safety of emergency crews on power lines, gas and water pipelines.

"Today, these measures have enabled us to start a gradual inspection and demining agricultural land. We make every effort, so that agribusinesses could conduct the planting campaign. At the moment we are focused on the inspection of Kyiv, Chernihiv and Sumy regions and also eliminating the consequences of persistent shelling in the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Mykolayiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Luhansk regions," the head of the department for the organization of pyrotechnic works and humanitarian demining of the SSESU said.

According to him, every day between 2 and 5 thousand explosive ordnance are removed.

"Compared to the period before the large-scale invasion, the volume of destruction of our territories has increased by more than 10 times", Oleh Bondar said.
