A 40bn dollars aid package, approved yesterday, is expected to include the transfer of advanced American Patriot surface-to-air missile systems to Ukraine, reports The Washington Post.
“The bill, passed on an 86-to-11 vote Thursday, provides a combined 20bn dollars in military aid that is expected to finance the transfer of advanced weapons systems, such as Patriot antiaircraft missiles and long-range artillery,” reports news outlet.
According to The Washington Post, following is also included in the bill:
more than 8bn dollars in general economic support for Ukraine;
nearly 5bn dollars in global food aid to address potential food shortages sparked by the collapse of the Ukrainian agricultural economy;
more than 1bn dollars in combined support for refugees.
New 100m dollars US aid package for Ukraine includes 18 items of 155-mm howitzers, 18 vehicles for driving these howitzers, three anti-artillery AN/TPQ-36 radars, as well as additional field equipment and spare parts. US weapons are transferred to Ukraine in very short terms, sometimes even faster than in 24 hours, as the US understands that “these are things that can’t sit idle.”
On May 19 the Senate approved 40bn dollars in emergency military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
