The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) suspended the russian national team from participation in the European Championship-2022, according to the press service of the federation.
It is specified that the russian team will be replaced by Montenegro at the tournament. This choice is based on the fact that the Montenegrin team has the best ratio of wins to losses.
In addition, sanctions are also applied to club competitions: men's Champions League and European Cup-FIBA, as well as Women's Euroleague and Eurocup.
European Championship will be held in Germany, Georgia, Italy, and the Czech Republic from 1 to 18 September. The final round will be held in Berlin.
Ukraine’s national team will play in the tournament. Our team is in Group C, where it will play against Italy, Greece, Estonia, Croatia, and the UK. Four national teams will play in the next round.
Earlier it was reported that FIBA excluded the national teams of russia and belarus from their competitions.
