MP Dmytro Lubinets has been appointed parliament's commissioner for human rights with 277 votes, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak has said.
Lubinets, who is currently a member of the For the Future party, was elected to parliament from a constituency in Donetsk Region. After 2010, he was a city councilor in Volnovalha, a member of parliament in its previous convocation on the list of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc.
Previous ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova was dismissed on 31 May. She insists this was done in violation of the procedures and Article 5 of the Constitution. Her tenure would have expired in 2023. She is contesting her dismissal in court.
