A night-time missile strike launched by russian strategic aviation from the Black Sea area hit an apartment block and a recreation centre in Serhiyivka, Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyy District of Odesa Region.
As of 13:30 on 1 July, 20 people were reported killed (16 in the apartment block and four in the recreation centre, including one child) and 38 injured (37 in the apartment block, including six children, and one in the recreation centre).
Thirty-eight people were hospitalized. Eight people were rescued, including three children (7 people in the apartment block, including three children, and one from the recreation facility). A total of 112 specialists and 16 units of equipment are involved in the search and rescue effort. The work is ongoing.
2 July was declared a day of mourning in Odesa Region.
The holiday camp in Serhiyivka, Odesa Region, which was shelled by the russians, belonged to Moldova and was intended for the rehabilitation of children with severe diseases, the Moldovan health minister, Alla Nemerenco, has said.
She added that one employee of the centre was killed and five were wounded.
Nemerenco explained that the centre on the Black Sea coast was meant for the rehabilitation of Moldovan children with severe diseases. After the start of the coronavirus pandemic, the centre was temporarily closed and small staff remained there.
