Defence Minister Anita Anand has said that Canada will send four Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
"The defence minister has just announced that Canada will send 4 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine," journalist Annie Bergeron-Oliver tweeted.
Anand says Canada would also be sending "a number of troops" to help Ukrainians learn how to use these tanks.
Anand says the tanks provide soldiers with a "tactical advantage" on the battlefield. The four tanks are combat ready and will be deployed "over the coming weeks".
"Canada and its partners will work together to pool ammunition and spare parts. On the 4 tanks, Anand says 'this number may grow'," the journalist quoted the minister as saying.
The number of tanks to be provided has been "carefully" chosen to ensure it does not impact Canada's readiness, she added.
