A pro-Kremlin blogger who was wanted for high treason was detained in a Kyiv monastery, the Prosecutor General's Office reports. Law enforcement sources told LB.ua that the detainee is Dmytro Skvortsov.
According to the investigation, even before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the suspect began actively assisting Russia in conducting subversive activities against Ukraine.
Fulfilling his Russian supervisors' instructions, he prepared and sent articles expressing pro-Russian views for publication. These materials were posted on Russian websites, actively distributed by propagandists and made available to an unlimited number of users.
The conclusions of the examination confirm that these publications contained calls for violence, racial, national or religious hatred, discrimination, and other manifestations of intolerance and hostility, negatively influenced public opinion, contributed to the spread of Russian propaganda in Ukraine, and threatened national security in the information sphere.
In August 2022, he was notified of being suspected of treason. He then went on the run from justice and was put on the wanted list.
As a result of the investigative and operative actions, law enforcement officers managed to establish his whereabouts and detained him on the territory of one of the monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in Kyiv, where he was hiding.
Following the prosecutor's motion, the suspect has been taken into custody as a non-alternative measure of restraint.
