Slovakia is considering providing Ukraine with Soviet MiG-29 aircraft, AP reports.
Slovakia may transfer 10 out of 11 MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine. Another fighter jet is reserved for a Slovakian museum.
“We will never use the MiGs anymore. They have no real value for us. If we give them to Ukraine, they can help save their lives,” Jaroslav Nad, Slovak Minister of Defence, said.
If Slovakia agrees, it will be the first NATO member to do so.
Last summer, Slovakia stopped using its MiGs due to a lack of spare parts and maintenance specialists.
A final decision is expected within days or weeks.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy officially asked Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger to supply MiG-29 fighters.
