There are about 4,000 Russian troops in Belarus, the spokesman for the State Border Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, has said on the air of the news telethon.

"Russian troops continue to be deployed on the territory of Belarus. According to our data, it is a little over 4,000 servicemen. This is slightly fewer than before because the Russian army is actually using the territory of Belarus to train its units, there is a constant rotation," he said.

He added that no movement of military equipment or personnel of the Belarusian or Russian army units had been recorded near the Ukrainian border.

"They are mostly at training grounds. At the moment, there is no necessary strike group on the territory of Belarus that would be ready to invade the territory of Ukraine," Demchenko said.

He noted that despite the small number of Russian troops in the neighbouring country, the border line with Belarus and the border area continue to be reinforced, which will help to deter a possible offensive from this direction.

As reported earlier, the commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Serhiy Nayev, said that Ukraine was aware of the movement of weapons and military equipment in Belarus as part of the readiness check of its army.
