The Ukrainian Air Force currently has five brigades of SU-27 and MIG-29 fighters in service, its spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat has said, according to the Kyiv TV channel.
"This is a historic step – the transfer of such weapons (MIG-29 from Poland - ed.) to Ukraine. We have three brigades of such aircraft today. We have five fighter brigades: two SU-27 brigades and three MIG-29 brigades. These are old Soviet fourth-generation fighters that are morally and physically obsolete," Ihnat said.
According to him, the first step towards the transfer of this type of weapon is a sign for other countries.
"This is a sign for others that they need to take the second step and the third step. What are the next steps? The transfer of modern advanced aviation platforms," the spokesman stressed.
Earlier, Ihnat said that Russia has 5-6 times more aircraft than Ukraine.
