Hungary has banned imports of honey and a number of meat products from Ukraine until 30 June, in addition to grain, Reuters has reported, quoting the prime minister's office.

Hungary's ban on imports of major grains and agricultural products "includes a total of 25 products, the most important of which are cereals, rapeseed and sunflower seeds, flour, oil, honey and some meat products".

Hungarian Agriculture Minister István Nagy said that the country would continue to allow the transit of Ukrainian grain in a controlled manner.

"It was worthwhile for Hungary to take decisive action and protect the interests of Hungarian farmers," he said.

The European Union is preparing emergency restrictions on imports of Ukrainian grain to Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Bulgaria. The European Commission will take measures only if the governments cancel their current measures, which they have not yet agreed to. Imports are expected to be banned until June, with the exception of re-exports to other EU member states or parts of the world, a senior EU official said.
