The Cabinet of Ministers has extended the state of emergency and quarantine throughout Ukraine due to COVID-19 until 30 June, the Health Ministry has said.

"A full-scale war has diverted our attention from the pandemic, but COVID-19 has not disappeared. People continue to get sick and some die. We lose about a hundred people every week to the coronavirus. And while there is a general downward trend in the incidence of COVID-19 globally, the European region is seeing an increase. We can expect an increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases in Ukraine this spring. However, the dynamics of the incidence growth will depend on the SARS-CoV-2 variant that will circulate and the level of vaccination coverage of the population," said Deputy Minister of Health Ihor Kuzin.

It is noted that the level of vaccination in Ukraine remains insufficient to form a collective immunity to COVID-19.

As of 16 April, more than 35.3 million vaccinations have been carried out since the start of the vaccination campaign. One dose of vaccination was given to 16,327,904 people, two doses to 15,477,258, the first booster dose to 3,171,471 people, and the second booster dose to 296,892 people.
