National Security and Defence Council Secretary Oleksiy Danilov has responded sharply to PACE President Tiny Kox's remark that Ukraine should hold elections under martial law.

On the air of the news telethon, Danilov stressed that there would be no elections in Ukraine until the end of martial law, as this contradicts its constitution.

"When such a state in which our country is today is introduced, no elections can take place. Period," Danilov emphasised.

On 15 May, the head of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE, Mariya Mezentseva, said that Ukraine was preparing to hold presidential and parliamentary elections in 2024, hoping to win the war by then.

The president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Tiny Kox, insists that Ukraine should hold parliamentary and presidential elections even under martial law.
