Former US State Department Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker has suggested that Ukraine may join NATO before the end of the war against Russia, according to Ukrinform.
"As for whether Ukraine can join NATO before the end of the war, it is worth looking at Germany, which joined NATO as a divided country when the eastern part of Germany was under Soviet occupation," Volker said during a briefing in Odesa.
Volker suggested that in this case, Article 5 could be applied only to those territories that would be under the control of Kyiv at the time of accession.
He noted that the situation with the war in Ukraine could be similar to that in Korea, where North and South Korea are still at war.
