The court changed the measure of restraint for Metropolitan Pavlo (Lebid) of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate). Instead of round-the-clock house arrest, the court chose to keep him in custody until 14 August with an alternative bail of more than UAH 33 million, Suspilne has reported.
"According to the prosecutor, Lebid communicated with one of the witnesses in the criminal case, which violated the obligations imposed by the court," the report said.
However, the Metropolitan said during the hearing that he did not know the witness.
Earlier, Metropolitan Pavel, the former rector of the Kyiv Pechersk Monastery, was served with a new suspicion.
The Metropolitan is charged with denying Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine and violating the equality of citizens based on their race, nationality, region and religious beliefs (Part 3 of Article 436-2, Part 2 of Article 161 of the Criminal Code).
On 30 June, the Solomyanskyy district court of Kyiv extended Metropolitan Pavlo's house arrest for another two months, until 31 August.
