Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), together with prosecutors from the Prosecutor-General's Office, detained the former head of the Odesa Regional Territorial Centre for Recruitment and Social Support, Yevhen Borysov, the SBI press service has said.
On Saturday, he was notified of suspicion of illicit enrichment worth hundreds of millions of hryvnyas and of intentional draft evasion.
It is noted that Borisov tried to escape from the investigation. He changed his phone numbers, cars, and location.
"Active search efforts lasted for two days, and finally, as a result of comprehensive operational and investigative measures, he was found and detained in Kyiv. Taking into account the former military commissar's attempts to hide from justice, SBI officers will ask the court to keep him in custody without bail option," the SBI said.
Earlier, the SBI notified Borysov of suspicion, and the Prosecutor General's Office stated that he was going to be put on the wanted list.
During the pre-trial investigation, the Bureau collected a huge body of evidence against Borysov. It also studied media reports and materials from the NACP, which also found signs of illicit enrichment of the former Odesa military commissar worth more than UAH 188 million.
In particular, one of the journalistic investigations showed that last year the military commissar's mother became the owner of a residential building in Spain worth more than EUR 4 million. It also turned out that, in addition to the elite foreign real estate, she also purchased a Mercedes-Benz EQV car this year for almost UAH 3 million.
Subsequently, law-enforcement officers found that Borysov's mother-in-law had also become the owner of an expensive car fleet in recent years without having sufficient funds of legal origin. It included: a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, a Mercedes-Benz G 63 AMG, and a Toyota Land Cruiser.
His wife also acquired another foreign property - an office space in Spain worth EUR 737,000, also without having sufficient legally obtained assets and income.
